Among all the methods of clearing territories of explosive ordnance, manual demining is the most accurate, delicate and, at the same time, the most dangerous. This is the moment when a deminer comes face to face with a minefield.
Deminex has its own mobile teams of experienced professionals who take risks every day so that others can live without fear.
What is manual demining?
It is the process of physically detecting, removing or defusing explosive ordnance (EOD) using handheld equipment. This method allows you to work in conditions of difficult terrain, dense vegetation, among ruins or in places where equipment cannot pass.
Unlike mechanized clearance, it involves a person who relies on his or her own training, experience and attentiveness. The work of a deminer is a mixture of concentration, technical skill and endurance.
How does the process work?
Manual demining involves several key steps:
1. Preparation of the territory - setting markers, marking the area, determining the direction of movement of the group.
2. Search for ERW - using highly sensitive metal detectors, a specialist examines each lane.
3. Object identification - if the device gives a signal, the sapper manually excavates the object without damaging it.
4. Removal or neutralization - in case of confirmation of the EEE, measures are taken to safely remove or neutralize it.
5. Documentation - the object is recorded in a report, along with its coordinates, description and photo.
Where is manual demining used?
- In populated areas: near houses, schools, kindergartens
- In areas where it is impossible or dangerous to operate equipment
- In difficult natural conditions: forests, ravines, swamps
- Near infrastructure facilities (bridges, power lines, roads)
- In areas that are being prepared for reconstruction or the return of residents
Why is manual demining indispensable?
Because only a person can distinguish a piece of metal from a real mine, react in time, and choose a safe course of action. This method allows for maximum accuracy in conditions where every centimeter counts.
In many cases, manual demining is the only possible way to completely clear an area of ERW. It is slow, expensive, but effective and reliable.
